Edema
In this condition the leg swells up. It may affect a small portion or the entire body.
Numbness
It may occur over areas where there pronounced varicosities.
Throbbing in the Legs
It may occur due to the increased pressure of the blood against the
vein walls. It may affect the entire leg, however the most common areas are Varicose Veins
or Spider Veins. It may become severe after standing for long hours or exercising for a long
time.
Itchiness
Generally an irritated rash on or near the veins. It can result to dry skin and
eventually eczema in severe cases
Desire to Elevate
in such cases, the patients feel that lifting their legs up will bring some
relief to their effected legs. While standing it often feels that the legs are under pressure
which generally subsides after lifting their legs up. Although, this is considered to be
normal but it is a strong indication of venous insufficiency.
Exaggerated Symptoms at the Time of Menstruation
The problem of varicose veins
becomes more uncomfortable and more so if the women is on her menstruation cycle. The
condition often becomes more worst after pregnancy. This is most likely due to the
hormonal changes which effects the vein.
Pain
Varicose veins often become painful to the touch, especially after a long day of
standing, that is mainly because of the increased pressure within the fragile veins. Spider
veins can also be painful, since they often transmit abnormally high pressures from the
larger veins. This pain may often improve with the use of compression stockings.
